Privacy Policy

How Before You Go handles checklist items, home location, notifications, and local app data.

Before You Go helps you remember important items before leaving home. It stores a personal checklist, learns which items you often forget, and can use a saved home location to remind you when you leave.

Information Before You Go Processes

Checklist Items

You can add items you do not want to forget, such as keys, wallet, laptop, medication, or sports gear.

Before You Go stores:

  • item names you enter;
  • how many times each item was marked as forgotten;
  • created and updated timestamps used to sort reminders.

This data is stored locally on your device.

Home Location

If you choose to set a home location, Before You Go may process:

  • your current location when you press the setup button;
  • a saved latitude/longitude for the home area;
  • a human-readable home label generated from the device location services;
  • the timestamp when the home location was updated.

The home location is used to configure a geofence so the app can send a reminder when you leave the area. Before You Go does not show a map, does not share your location with other users, and does not use your location for advertising.

Notifications

If you allow notifications, Before You Go can send reminders such as:

  • a test reminder you request;
  • a leave-home reminder when the configured home trigger fires.

Notification permission can be changed in iOS or Android settings.

Diagnostics

Before You Go may store local diagnostic status on your device, such as whether the leave-home trigger is ready, the last trigger event message, or whether permissions are missing.

Some builds may send privacy-safe diagnostics to third-party services:

  • PostHog can receive high-level product events, such as app opened, setup completed, final check opened, permission result, item count, and settings actions.
  • Sentry can receive crash and error diagnostics, such as app version, platform, build profile, and sanitized error context.

Before You Go does not send checklist item names, home labels, addresses, exact coordinates, notification payloads, tokens, secrets, screenshots, session replays, or advertising identifiers as part of these diagnostics.

Where Data Is Stored

Before You Go stores product data locally on your device using app storage.

The first release does not use a Before You Go account, cloud sync, remote database, or server-side profile.

If analytics or crash diagnostics are enabled for a build, diagnostic events may be processed by PostHog or Sentry. These services are used for app quality and product health, not advertising or cross-app tracking.

Platform services from Apple, Google, or your device operating system may be involved when you request location, reverse geocoding, geofencing, background location, motion activity, or notifications. Those services are governed by the relevant platform terms and privacy policies.

Your Choices

You can:

  • choose not to set a home location;
  • choose not to allow notifications;
  • choose not to allow background location;
  • delete individual checklist items;
  • reset or remove app data by deleting the app from your device;
  • change permissions in iOS or Android settings.

If location or notification permissions are disabled, leave-home reminders may not work, but you can still use the checklist manually.

Data Deletion

For local-only data, deleting the app removes the local app data from that device, subject to normal operating system behavior.

For privacy or deletion questions, use the in-app Support or Send Feedback flow.

Children's Privacy

Before You Go is not intended for children under 13 or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction. The app does not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes

This policy may change as Before You Go evolves. Material changes should be reflected in the app or release notes before broader public release.
